This website, farooqbinmunir.com, is the personal portfolio of Farooq Bin Munir, a software engineer and web developer based in Lahore, Pakistan. This page explains what personal information the site collects, why, and what you can ask me to do with it. I keep it short because the site collects very little.
Who is responsible for your data
I, Farooq Bin Munir, am responsible for the personal information collected through this website. You can reach me at farooqbinmunir@gmail.com about anything on this page.
What I collect and why
The contact form
When you send the form on the Contact page, it collects your name, email address, subject, project type and message. I use these only to reply to you and to discuss your project. The legal basis is your request to be contacted and the steps before a possible contract.
Your message is emailed to my Gmail inbox, so Google stores a copy as my email provider. A copy is also saved in this website’s database so that messages are not lost if an email fails.
Email and WhatsApp
If you contact me by email or WhatsApp instead, I receive whatever you choose to send, along with your email address or phone number. Those messages are handled by Google (Gmail) and WhatsApp under their own privacy policies.
Server logs
Like almost every website, the server that hosts this site keeps short-term technical logs of requests, which include your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. They are used to keep the site secure and working, and are not used to identify or profile visitors.
Cookies and tracking
This site does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and it does not load fonts, scripts or embeds from other companies. WordPress sets cookies only when an administrator logs in, which does not apply to visitors.
The share buttons on blog posts and the links to LinkedIn, GitHub, WhatsApp and other sites are plain links. Nothing is sent to those services unless you click one, and once you are on their site, their own privacy policies apply.
Who I share it with
I do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and I do not add you to any mailing list. The only other parties involved are the services that make the site and my inbox work: the web hosting provider and Google (Gmail). Some of these may store data outside your country.
How long I keep it
I keep enquiries for as long as needed to reply and, if we work together, for the length of the project and my business records. Enquiries that do not lead to a project are deleted from the website’s database within 12 months. You can ask me to delete yours sooner at any time.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and the UK), you have the right to:
- see the personal information I hold about you;
- have it corrected or deleted;
- object to or restrict how I use it;
- receive a copy of it in a common format;
- complain to your local data protection authority.
To use any of these rights, email farooqbinmunir@gmail.com. I will reply within 30 days.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, and the website and email accounts are protected with strong passwords. No method of sending or storing data online is completely secure, so please do not send passwords or payment details through the contact form.
Children
This site is meant for businesses and adults. I do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.
Changes to this policy
If the site starts collecting anything new, for example through analytics, I will update this page first and change the date at the top.
